Install failed: can't mount root

Hi!

Today my Vero V gave up
Cold boot shows the attached black screen.

Followed instructions for reinstalling OSMC, but installer fails after the 60 seconds countdown and shows me error message “Install failed: can’t mount root”.

Have tried one SD-card and one Kingston DataTraveler USB-drive.
Have tried re-installing four times.
Have tried re-downloading new (latest) image via installer.
Have tried to boot USB-drive while pressing button inside 3.5mm audio jack, but didn’t notice any difference in the install process.

This is the content of the USB-drive:

Please, can someone give me some tips on what to try next?

I still have my Vero 4K+ working on my spare TV, so I’m not totally stranded, but it would be nice to get this sorted out…

Thanks in advance!

That doesn’t look very good but since you have another Vero you could try powering the V with the PSU from the 4k+.

Thanx for the quick reply.

Haven’t tried that yet, but do you think it could be a power/PSU problem, even though it is booting up (however complaining about broken file system), and is able to start the installer?

You say it gave up.

What happened that prompted you to reinstall?

Sam

Hey Sam!
Thanks for the reply.

Well, I wasn’t there, but my son was about to watch a movie and he said it began to stutter and audio and video was out of sync and a lot of text was showing on the screen he said(?). That Vero V is connected to a SynologyNAS via cable ethernet.

In the “Have you tried turning it off and on again” spirit, he tried to restart the Vero by pulling the power cord as a troubleshooting action, and after that hard reboot that’s when the attached black screen appeared, and since then it is not booting up normally.

After some searching here in the wiki and support forum, a re-install seemed to be a solution… and here we are

(If I boot without USB-drive installer, I get the same black screen.)
(If I watch the same movie from my Vero 4K+ which is on WiFi, it takes a lot of time to load however, but it does not stutter and is not out of sync)

That Vero V unit has been showing some peculiar behavior though lately with the LG TV HDMI CEC remote control not 100% working as expected, giving me blue screen and the sad face, followed by a self-reboot. After a few reboots from time to time, the remote controller has been working as expected again.
