Installing and running Raspbmc on Pi2

If I grab a Pi2 at some stage and copy my running Raspbmc installtion to the MicroSD card will I still be able to run it?

I will migrate to OSMC when its done with its Pi2 speedups as that is the one reason I would get a Pi2…

Hi,

Raspbmc will not run on the new Pi 2.0. You’ll need to load OSMC on it for now. You could drag and drop the kernel_v7 and modules from Raspbian in, but there are a lot of Raspbmc specific patches that would be missing.

OSMC is actually quite stable. Give it a go – it needs users to progress!

Thanks Sam - Good job I asked…

Will OSMC run on the Pi1?

Yes, we have been offering original Pi builds for some time now and will continue to do so

Cheers

Sam

Hi Sam,

I’ve managed to pick up a Pi 2 today. I’m trying to download Alpha 4 via the windows installed but get Download failed! Please check network settings message?

Thanks,

Are you behind a corporate proxy ?

The installer can’t download via a proxy server.

Are you running the Windows, Mac or Linux version of the installer ?

No proxy, from the installer I selected Pi 1 and that works fine and the files begin to download. Whenever I select Pi 2 it won’t?

Windows installer.

I have exactly the same issue

For people with Windows Installer issue:

Try (not verified, trying myself right now):

  • download latest image http://173.255.206.49/osmc/download/installers/diskimages/ and save C:\Users{username}
  • try running the installer again and it will probably find the image
  • maybe a rename of the file is also needed to “OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20150201.img.gz”
According to the log file in the directory C:\Users{username}, it is looking for an image which isn’t at this location.

“Error downloading http://173.255.206.49/osmc/download/installers/diskimages/OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20150201.img.gz - server replied: Not Found”

update: worked for me

I encountered another error whilst writing the image to SD card using the installer. In the end I used windiskimager to flash the image to the card and the Pi 2 booted and is currently updating files.

I’ll let you know how I get on…

Tried to download and install OSMC Alpha 4 on a microSDcard to use with a Pi 2 and it stopps right away with this message:
Download failed! Please check your internet connection.

And there is nothing wrong with my internet.

We had a large amount of traffic today which was responsible for some download issues.

This should largely be resolved now

Careful there – you have a ‘1’ at the end of the file extension. The real URL is

http://download.osmc.tv/installers/diskimages/OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20150202.img.gz. You should use this URL anyway as it will make you hit a load balancer

Hi Sam,

This was the URL the Windows Installer was using according to the log.

I fixed an error in the URL and it should work fine now

Thanks and congratulations with your birthday

Running perfectly with Alpha 4!
The only thing I changed was in config.txt … all the standard over/underclocking as the RPi2 runs default on 900MHz
