I’ve got an unused DVD player from my laptop. I’ve just ordered a DVD enclosure to make it an external DVD player.
I can’t find any recent topics on whether this works or not properly. I see some support questions in 2015 and 2016, where people say it doesn’t work (i.e. no menu structure, Kodi hangs, etc.)
If it doesn’t work I’ll buy a separate DVD player but would be cool to use only the Kodi.
I’ve got a Vero 4K.
As long as the enclosure has its own power supply, it should be no worse than any other way of providing DVD sources - some users report problems with certain sources (as you’ve seen).
For Kodi in a OSMC context I’ve had little trouble with either DVD device in a suitable usb enclosure, or a self-contained usb external DVD device.

It has a separate power supply, so that should be fine. It’s worth the try, just $5 on Aliexpress
And I can use it for my laptop anyway.
Thanks!
