I would like to use an original Microsoft Media Center Edition (MCE) IR receiver with the Vero V. Is this going to work? I found a post from 2021 that seemed to say support had been removed, so I’m unsure.
If it won’t work, what IR protocol does the builtin receiver use? Does it recognize MCE protocol? Would a universal learning IR remote be teachable from the supplied remote, or is it RF-only?
I think support for USB MCE receivers are a bit hit or miss. If you plug one in and you don’t have at least basic navigation then it isn’t going to work. The built in IR Receiver works with whichever remote that has been set as active in the remote section of the My OSMC add-on. Most MCE remotes should work with either the lircd-full or rc6-mce-lircd profiles. Note that there is not a standard for MCE remotes and the naming AFAIK seems to have been more about a general style of remote than a set protocol.
The supplied remote is RF only and communicates only with its own proprietary receiver.
The built in IR receiver can use MCE remotes.
May need some selection in My OSMC → Remotes but it is the default

Thanks, I can work with that, though MCE receiver support would let me keep everything where it is, with the Vero sitting out of sight behind some stuff on a shelf. At worst, I’d have to locate the Vero where the MCE receiver currently is and reroute HDMI and network cables.
