Issue with Vero4k and raw 4K MTS files?

I did make these changes:

  • Display ->Resolution = 1920x1080p
  • Whitelist (empty)
  • Adjust display refresh rate = On start/stop
  • Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling = enable

These made no difference. I can upload logs again with these settings if you want.

But at least now I have a good idea of what the settings should be.

FWIW: i don’t think this matters, but my TV is Sony XBR55-900E. The Vero is connected via HDMI->Receiver BD input, receiver output to TV’s ARC input.

I’ll try again tomorrow.

thx guys.

ken

You should’t need that setting, try turning it off.

The setting I believe most likely responsible for your issue is “sync playback to display”. I guess that may have gotten lost with the other information.

The recommendation for running the UI in 1080p is about improving browsing performance for the most part.

Have you tried playing the file from a USB Stick to exclude the network as a factor?

Sorry it took so long to get back. I had a serious system meltdown…

Tried from USB (new SanDisk 3.0). No it didn’t play. I think the 1G network connection played a little better.

Uploaded logs: http://paste.osmc.tv/lecitosaba.

Any help, please.

ken

FYI this setting in your advancedsettings.xml is not a good idea…

<memorysize>0</memorysize>

and on a related note you might try it with both of the cache settings removed and see if you have better luck.

Tried both ways. Still the same.

Are you actually sure that the file is not broken?
Maybe upload sample (<5GB) here https://videosam.pl/

I uploaded (maybe twice) the file evo.m2ts

It’s not there so that probably means there was a login issue. If you go to https://my.osmc.tv/my-account/ and login there first then https://videosam.pl/ should allow you to upload your file.

Did that, and uploaded again. Something got sent to videosam.pl; I watched it in wireshark.

Did you get the file?

No, but I grabbed the same source and made a sample for Sam to check out myself. I think there is something off with how this video was mastered as I couldn’t get it to play correctly either. I even converted it with MakeMKV to no effect.

Where did you grab the source from?

I also have “IMAX: The Space Station” (bluray folder) that acts the same way, but only over wireless - wired 1G ethernet worked fine.

I also have other 4K videos that will only play over ethernet. But I think my wifi router is having problems (it is rather old). I do have a new wifi router, but haven’t gotten it set up yet.

FWIW: I have an MKV that won’t work over either wifi or 1G. Here is the (partial (no text stream info) media info:

MOD EDIT: put the media info details under a drop down summary to reduce length of post.

My source was an untouched rip of the title in your logs, which is what you were trying to play.

This would be a different issue then. The file in your OP has issues outside of bandwidth. I even copied it to a USB attached SSD to completely rule out source speed as a factor. As a general rule though, issues with large files streaming over wifi is common and wired is far more reliable.

If you can produce a small sample of that file (I use MKVToolNix GUI to do this) and upload it then that may be helpful. Otherwise it would probably be better to stay focused on the first file in question as a solution to that one may fix the other.

I realize the problems with wifi bandwidth. But as you said, this issue is more about the original bluray not playing (Note: I did try playing the m2ts file directly, and through the Vero, it failed. I also tried with smplayer, on my desktop. That worked - although the desktop is not quite powerful for smooth playing.

Will try to get sample from the other to you. That also plays on my desktop, although very choppy and audio gets out of sync.

Did you try converting the m2ts file into an mkv? That was my next attempt.

ken

Sorry, didn’t know about that, but now I do

PS: thanks for the help here.

I tried the original file on my PC as well and I can play it fine with MPC or VLC but Win10 Movie and TV player does not like the rip at all. What about this file is an issue is beyond my experience, but now that we have been able to narrow down the issue as being with the file and not something particular with your setup then that gives the development team something to look at for possible fixes. I think Sam is a bit busy currently so you will probably have to be patient for an update.

I did try converting to a mkv both with just dumping the main title into Mkvtoolnix and running it though MakeMKV and it did not make any difference. Whatever the issue, it seems to be with the encode and not the container.

On a side note I see that you have already made a system mount but your not using it for your library. If that is working it should be faster than the Kodi nfs paths your using now. You might consider adding a path substitution if your struggling with bandwidth.

I did know about the nfs mount issue, but not the kodi path substitution. I will try the substitution at some point, but since the bandwidth issue only affects a few of my videos (most all of the 4K), I’m in no great hurry. Although, I really do want to watch the “Evolution” video :frowning: (but I’m in no great hurry for that, so let Sam get to it when he can.)

Thanks again,

ken

Bump.

Anything new and interesting about this bluray?

ken

Hi Ken - I will check this shortly
