Just received the Vero V. A few beginner questions…

Hi all,

Just received the Vero V and have a few questions.

Firstly is it normal that I can not use the remote to power on the device if I set it to shutdown? I’m assuming the option is to leave on permanently or set it to suspend.

Secondly on the main menus the audio keeps cutting out and I get PCM flashing on the receiver once the audio kicks back in. Is that normal? I have tried different hdmi cables, and connecting directly to the tv to rule out a receiver issue, but the same thing happens.

I’ve also tried enabling keep audio alive and send low volume noise but it makes no difference.

During actual video playback there are no dropouts.

Thanks in advance

Yes shutdown will power off the device in a way that only can be overcome by disconnect the power.
You normally can leave it in the current state or use suspend. You also can configure it goes into suspend when the TV switches off.

That’s correct.

As for the audio issue in menus, I have never experienced that.
Maybe someone else can chime in.

Ah ok so that side of it is normal. Great I’ll leave it on suspend then in the hdmi cec settings.

I’ve been doing some experimenting and with regards to audio dropouts in menus when I set the refresh rate to 60hz instead of 120hz the issue stops.

It’s a shame as I quite like the higher refresh rate when browsing the library etc.

@sam_nazarko could that be a bug of some sort, and is it something you’ve had mentioned before?

Thank you both for the response.

As mentioned the audio issues I’m experiencing stop as soon as I set the resolution to 1920x1080p (2d) and refresh rate to 60.00.

When I set the refresh rate to 120.00 the audio keeps dropping out and I get pcm flash up in the receiver each time the audio kicks back in.

What resolution and refresh rate do most of you set the menus at? Perhaps only a minority bother with the 120hz which would explain why the majority at 60hz have no issues.

You normally would set the resolution and refresh rate at the same that most of your movies are to avoid a switch of the resolution/refreshrate at the start of the movie as that normally takes a few seconds.

And I can not image which advantage you see with a 120hz rate refreshrate on the menu???

Yes. Most would not see any great benefit in using 120hz. But in the menus I’d have thought intermittent audio wouldn’t be very noticeable. There is a bug being worked on in which 1080p120hz or 4k video playback with 44.1kHz audio can be problematic. So don’t try playing CD rips with 1080p120hz GUI until that’s been fixed. 4k video with 44.1kHz audio is thankfully quite rare.

Just as an update to this thread. As well as sound issues where the sound would keep cutting in and out (PCM would keep flashing on my receiver) when I would play Dolby vision profile 7 and switch source and back again I would be greeted with a black screen.

I have enabled an option called “Lock HDMI HPD” and that has fixed the blackscreen issue and also the sound now no longer drops out.

Could someone explain what that option does - it says disables HPD events but what does that mean?

Thanks

Hi,

Long cable?
Connected to a projector?

It means when the signal drops, we won’t deassert and stop sending a signal. We keep sending it.

Without this setting enabled, if you unplug an HDMI cable from Vero, we drop the signal. Then when you re-attach it, we re-read the HDMI EDID and send a signal.

We do this to allow hotplugging and adjust the display resolution and update display capabilities. It’s extremely unlikely people swap their HDMI cables between different TVs. However – some AV receivers change their EDIDs when in standby or when their connected devices are in standby or a different input is selected. So it’s important for us to react to the advertised display’s capabilities and act accordingly.

However for long run cables or where signal is marginal (particularly pronounced with long cables to projectors), the signal may drop or be marginal. This can instruct Vero to drop the signal as it is like a cable being unplugged. By locking HPD Lock, you are telling Vero to ignore these events, so we continue sending the signal.

Hope this clears things up

Cheers

Sam

I run my GUI at 1080p120 and have not had the audio issues that you describe.
So I don’t think its a 60/120 thing.

Yes I think there’s something else going on.
