LG Magic Remote pointer as input

The magic remote has this feature where a pointer appears on screen, you move it with the wrist, like the Wii controler.

instead of navigating the remote through the arrows, would it be possible to use the pointer as if it was a mouse?

I have absolutely no expertise in this, but I’m pretty sure this is not possible for devices connected via HDMI, only for webOS apps running directly on the TV.

Furthermore, most skins, including the OSMC skin don’t support mice

I see…
its just because I recently installed Stremio on my LG and interface-wise is a game changer using the magic remote as input device. you can even use the microphone as a keyboard

This is planned.

necropost…

Could it? Caveat: without implementation being a ton of work.
The LG remote’s onscreen cursor is seriously impressive.

On my LG, It works flawlessly on two HDMI connected boxes.

Can you elaborate on what exactly you mean? The TV can do CEC via HDMI but that offers neither a keyboard or mouse interface, just a relatively basic set of control commands. I’m pretty sure I made an attempt a few months back to see if my LG C1 with magic remote would connect via BT which may allow such a control system but didn’t find where this was an option.

Last month, I bought a LG C4 (WebOS 24).

The Magic Remote’s cursor simply worked when I connected an ancient Western Digital player to the HDMI eARC port.

The cursor works like a mouse pointer within the player’s WD software. It will navigate menus, select options and launch files. It can do most everything the WD remote can.

Is that what you wanted to know? The knowledge gap between us is so large that I can’t be certain.

Yes, but it didn’t end up leading me to any kind of an answer. I couldn’t find anything on the web about anyone doing what your describing, let alone an explanation on how exactly it would be doing it. I went on my C1 and told it that I had a WD box plugged in and it only sent out regular IR remote commands like any other universal remote would do. I saw a mention of the air mouse working through miracast but even that didn’t work for me when I tried it. Are you sure you’re talking about the magic remotes mouse working in the WD TV’s actual HDMI interface and not confusing that with using the UPnP/DLNA functions built into WebOS to stream content over the network from the WD box?

Dunno. I wish I could be of more help.

Yes… no network. AV-wise, my home is a work in progress. Hence, a 10 year old WDTV hooked up to a C4.

Would you mind taking a video of that?

I found this and this but those are just for PCs.

I did see those, but since that setup requires you to root the TV and sideload an app that communicates this signaling to the PC I thought it highly doubtful it would be related in any way.

I agree, I’m really curious how it just worked with this old WD player.

Indeed. Does the WD Live even implement CEC?

Or maybe we’re just thinking too much about how it works. I mean, it’s in its name: magic. :magic_wand:
