Of the Led Zep 24/96 FLACS (and notably some other Led Zep Tidal 24/96 FLACs I have tried today) playback of individual tracks still suffer the delay in audio at the very start. This looks to be related to the AVR turning its decoder off and then on again as it has detected a new or changed audio stream.. Fortunately however gapless playback of multiple FLACS (in a playlist/folder) does work - there’s no noticable delay or gaps in starting the next track. This is with settings>system>audio set to ‘Best Match’.
Playback does however behave for these FLACS with settings>system>audio set to ‘Fixed’, which is not ideal.
I also noticed that the AVR however does not turn its decoder mode, as detected, on-off-on again when playing 16-44.1 FLACs. Perhaps OSMC is sending audio mode/sample rate changes (via HDMI) when its doesn’t need to ?
I’m running an old Sony AVR… does everything I need, but it’s internal DAC is an old school Wolfson DAC.
Whenever a bitrate change is detected, it makes a loud “thunking” noise, and switches to handle the audio, which causes a loss at the beginning.
I always have to run FIXED to avoid that, when using HDMI out for audio.
Optimized could work for mixed playlists, but for an album, when it’s over, Kodi switches the audio back to it’s default. Even with GUI sounds turn off.
I run my main Vero V thru a USB DAC, hooked up to the AVR thru RCA cords.
The DAC switches instantly, so except for the initial March 2025 release, I get all the first notes.
Vero is sending a signal that’s interpreted by Denon AVRs as “Zero PCM”. Probably just means there’s info sent that’s indicating no audio being transmitted, but @grahamh will know in more detail. When it comes to the AVR’s side of things, I’d guess, AVRs have a “default” mode they switch to when no audio signal is applied - this might be 16bit 44.1kHz for yours and maybe also most others. So, no special switching will happen when it gets sent audio that matches this mode.

That explains a lot.
When first turning on my AVR, it is set for 44100.
When I wake up Vero, if it is set for fixed with send low volume noise, my AVR switches to the Limit Sample Rate setting. No problems then.
On Best Match, I guess low volume noise doesn’t have a set frequency to send when not playing media, so the Zero PCM signal resets my AVR to 44100.
Playlists don’t reset the AVR between songs, because the audio pipe stays open, or low volume noise keeps it open.
Sorry, I’m a little bit confused…
Is this the final solution or just a workaround?
Will this update ever appear on release channel?
I thought there would be a new version (for both vero4 and vero5), according to Sam’s comment on the other thread: “There will be a May 2025 update for Vero 4K/4K+ but this really is the last update.”
It’s a final solution for 99% of files. The workaround is for the 1% (notably Tidal flacs). I think Sam is planning a release real soon now but I don’t know the situation on Vero 4k.
