My osmc user password has changed - Can I change it back?

Hi All,

Quick query regarding my osmc user which I can no longer login with via SSH or locally due to an incorrect password. I haven’t changed it myself but have a suspicion someone may have portscanned me and logged in remotely as I had port 22 forwarded through my router (silly) and the osmc user password was unchanged.

I have a few services running in the background, Couchpotato and NZBGet which have stopped working (no access via HTTP) although Sonarr, Jackett, MiniDLNA and Transmission are running fine.

If it all possible I’d like to reset the password without having to restore a backup as getting the above programs running together took a long time, not to mention getting the MacOS journaled drives to mount RW via fstab.

Thanks for your help!

If you think someone has logged in to your device you should perform a reinstallation.

It is hard to say what the issue is without seeing logs, but it’s possible someone has been messing around with your system.

Thanks Sam, I feared as much. Will power through a new install tonight.

Cheers

Once you are back up and running, change your osmc password if you are going to open port 22 again to prevent the same from happening to you!
