New Vero 4K - Occasional issues with audio

I just received my new Vero 4K this week, and am testing some Atmos audio files.

Some of the Dolby Atmos demo files I have work fine and seem to always work, but others don’t have sound when I play them. Occasionally, if I try the same file 5-6 times it will work, but then I try again and no sound. All these files played fine on my old Pi2 (although without Atmos).

I have also seen at least one case where I am playing an Atmos movie, the sound is fine, and then if I skip ahead, it loses the sound.

Ideas?

Also, if it helps… Normally I hear my receiver make a click noise when it switches audio (ie. for Dolby Digital, or Atmos, …). When the files work fine it makes this click sound, but when there is no sound, this doesn’t happen. It seems the file is not triggering something in the receiver.

There’s some audio improvements coming in an update tomorrow that may help.

Which receiver do you have?

Onkyo TX-NR676

Ok, you should benefit from the improvements tomorrow
If you’d like to test them in advance and you’ve used SSH before, let us know.

yes, I am familiar to how to connect via SSH. I wouldn’t mind trying it out.

  1. Login via the command line
  2. Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list
  3. Add the following line: deb http://apt.osmc.tv stretch-devel main
  4. Run the following commands to update: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && reboot
  5. Your system should have have received the update.

Please see if the issue is resolved.

I also recommend you edit /etc/apt/sources.list again and remove the line that you added after updating. This will return you to the normal update channel.

Cheers

Sam

Yup, seems to have fixed it. Everything plays now.

Thanks!

Thanks for testing
