No video but audio OK on some videos since 12/21

In early or mid December there was an update which resulted in some videos not playing which had previously. This had changed between the previous version and this one.

The way the screen appears is a small region at the top with dots in it and the region below is a blur. Audio plays OK.

I’ve noticed that the only differences are the bit rate and the width. The encoding settings are identical.

This shows OK:

Can you post a snap of this, please?

The top bit initially appears as dots on a dark background, then after a few seconds changes to the lines shown in the picture.

Could you first switch to recommended settings at Settings -> Player -> Videos, there set

adjust display refresh rate -> start/stop
sync playback to display -> off

also set the GUI resolution at

Settings -> System -> Display -> Resolution -> 1920x1080p

(since your logs state your TV is capable to use it; don’t use a higher resolution, here; it only affects the GUI not the playback)

and provide logs, again? Thx.

Besides the video issue your connected LG TV reports to be able to process AC3, E-AC3, DTS and DTS-HD, so you can configure passthrough fo these formats accordingly at Settings -> System -> Audio.

Since your TV does not support PCM with more than 2 channels, also activate Dolby Digital (AC3) Transcoding, so TrueHD tracks get converted to a more appropriate multi-channel signal your TV understands.

Changes made, new log at https://paste.osmc.tv/roganukawo

I think we’re going to need a clip of your video that doesn’t play nicely. I’m assuming the problem is in the decoder since the debug overlay seems to be OK.

BTW, does the video play with software decoding (at least slowly)?

Where’s the best place to put a clip?

Google drive, dropbox, one drive, anywhere you can give us a URL to.

Thanks. OK, cut down to 20 seconds. Displays the same issues as the full length video.

That clip plays fine here, both hardware and software decoding. I can only suggest backing up and reinstalling OSMC.

I’ve already done that (restored 11/21 release, showed the same issue) with no change.

I don’t think this can be a software issue, then. I’m afraid I’m out of ideas.

I’ve sent you a link to a test thread.

Can you give it a go?

Sam
