Not able to play iPhone mov files

Hi!

I have read the discussions about this issue but the resolves seems different every time.

I previously (a month ago) had OSMC on a Raspberry Pi 2 with no issues playing mov files from iPhone. Never.

The files are on a self powered USB-HDD connected to the USB-port. I store pictures and movies taken from the family’s iPhones on the HDD to watch on the telly. That’s why Vero/OSMC is better than Apple TV.

Now when trying to play these mov files on my newly installed Vero 4K+ I get the same issues as others get. No problems watching pictures or mp4 files from the same drive.

  1. When pressing play the Vero freezes while showing “Buffering …” on the screen.
  2. I login via ssh and run the cmd: reboot
  3. The Vero shuts down correctly but does not reboot
  4. I have to unplug and plugin the power cable.
  5. The Vero boots up

I can’t reformat my mov files because there are a lot of files from many years…

Is there a simple solution or do I have to revert back to running Raspberry Pi 2 again?

Cheers!

The most simple solution is to provide a useful support request so that the built in Kodi debug logging feature can be utilized to determine exactly what the problem is and a useful solution can likely be provided.

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

I will get back with them logs ASAP. Meanwhile I have been doing some testing on my mov files. I tried mov files from 2013 and to this date.

Result:

  • Landscape mode: OK
  • Portrait mode: NOK

This confirms other reports on similar issues that mov files in portrait mode is the key problem here.

Disabling “Accelerate h264” solves the problem for the time being.

This issue is of course very easy reproduced.

If this is the case, I think you can hold off on providing logs and simply follow those other threads where this has been discussed at length and await the solution to follow there.

Thanks for quick response. Will follow the developments on the other threads. On the other hand Vero 4K+ is very snappy. It’s a joy browsing pictures and other medias. A great product I really recommend.

Can you upload a file on https://videosam.pl?

Sam

Do you mean a mov file from iPhone in portrait mode OR debug logs?

He would like you to provide a media file that is displaying the issue so a mov file. You may have to go to https://my.osmc.tv/my-account/ and login there first then https://videosam.pl/ should allow you to upload your file.

Uploaded a testfile that crashes my Vero 4K+. It is 4 seconds long.

OK?

Nope, that is just the mediainfo for the file. After that comes up you have to click on the upload button at the top of the page. If it starts and then after a few seconds gives a KO message then you have to login at the link I posted above and then try again. If you were able to successfully upload it you will get a message to that effect where it shows the upload progress.

2nd try - got the ”KO”

https://paste.osmc.tv/juqicetoha

OK?

It did not go through. I think the message is “completed” when it works. Did you go to https://my.osmc.tv/my-account/ and login there first before trying to upload? It is the same login as the forum but the uploader is still a bit beta and the sites have not been linked together yet.

3d time’s the charm, sent you a message with a link to the file.
