OSMC and external USB hard drive configuration

Hello all

I am using my RPi3 as a media center and a torrent box. I have a 1TB drive connected to it. The problem is that I want to give access to kodi only to the folder with the completed downloads and prohibit or even better don’t even show the folder with the incomplete downloads or downloads that has nothing to do with media.

At the same time I want full SMB access to the HDD so I can move files back n forth.

My biggest problem right now is the automount feature of kodi that always shows a 9XX.XX drive inside the file system. I need to disable that automount feature.

Disabling automount is not going to help you.

The drive has to be mounted to be able to access any of it. As soon as you mount it the entire drive’s file system will be visible within the filesystem where it is mounted.

If your issue is you don’t want to accidentally be playing incomplete downloads then only add the completed folder to your library’s video sources, so that when you update the library only completed downloads are found and added to the library.

I suggested to disable automount because I have already added the external HDD mount through fstab. I suppose afterwards I can show Kodi where it has to look for complete videos.

If you mount a drive in fstab it will automatically be left alone by the automounter.

So there is a mechanism in Kodi I suppose, that checks all the USB devices and lists them in the file explorer. Kodi lists the root of my external USB drive (named 93X.XXGB where X of course some numbers I don’t remember).

Yep. All mounted drives will get an entry in Video->Files automatically, this is a built in feature of Kodi.

Do you not use the Library mode of Kodi ? If you do, you would only add folders that contain completed downloads as sources for the Library, thus anyone going through Movies or TV Shows would not see incomplete files. Only if they manually browsed via Video->Files would they be able to see them.

Great I will check on that. To tell you the truth I am not using the Library feature at all. I am just downloading and playback what’s available. I am not really the one who will prepare lists with seasons, genre, etc for my movies. :stuck_out_tongue: Thank you Mandrake

I found also about the “excludefromlist” and “excludefromscan” features of kodi yesterday but I haven’t tried yet to mess up with the xml files.
