OSMC as a regular Raspberry Pi Distro

I’m having a few small problems with Kodi under Raspbian, and it’s been suggested I use OSMC/OpenElec/LibreElec. I want to use my Pi as a general purpose device so running an OS which doesn’t let me install/modify anything doesn’t work for me.

OSMC sounds like a possibility, but i’m wondering what exactly the differences are between it and Raspbian. Should I expect problems in any particular area? And assuming I install a bunch of other stuff ok, what sort of things should I avoid doing to prevent conflict with the smooth running of Kodi?

dont install x11 stuff

You have full apt-get support. You can install an X11 desktop, if you know what you’re doing, but we cannot provide support for that.

It’s pretty easy to reinstall OSMC. You are probably better off with experimenting with OSMC. It’s the best way to see if it meets your requirements.

I guess I don’t need X11 for the other stuff. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Thanks!
