OSMC fails to boot

Raspberry Pi 4 Mod B

I keep installing OSMC on my Pi. Once installation is complete I do some rudimentary testing and everything seems to be operating correctly. But, after shutdown and the unit either gets hung-up or doesn’t boot-up at all. Any ideas?

Maybe an oddity with the display mode it is picking up from whatever you have it plugged into. You might try another TV/monitor and see if it acts different. Also make sure you are using the HDMI port next to the USB C port. If you are using a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter instead of a proper cable that doesn’t need an adapter, note that those types of adapters tend to be problematic.

Well Darwin, at first I was ready to dismiss your diagnosis out of hand as being ridiculous.

But … Yes, I mean YES!

I figure I would give it the “old school” try. And, now, it not only boots but is operating in peak form.

Many thanks DARWIN!

Glad to hear. Out of curiosity, which actually turned out to be the issue?

I believe that Darwin may have hit on a “quirk” with the HDMI cable. As soon as I plugged a 100% micro to standard cable into the unit, everything worked. Also, in a reply from one of the other posts it stated that addons don’t work on their own for 21.1 (Omega). If you use a build, 99% of all things will work. Interesting …

I recently purchased Nordvpn only to find out it work on Python 3.0. Jeeeshh …

Can someone suggest a VPN that works with KODI 21.1 (Omega)?

Not sure what you mean by this. Any add-on that works with Kodi v21 will work.

NordVPN is an OpenVPN based provider. It will work fine on OSMC.

Hello, Sam, I am only repeating what NordVPN told me.

I purchased NordVPN and tried to install it. But, every attempt kept failing.

So, I contacted NordVPN for tech assistance and after several rounds of help they came to the conclusion that their product does not work with PYTHON 3.0. They refunded my money.

I was very impressed with this Organisation. I will switch when their product is updated.

Hello. Thank you for the information. Please feel free to advance directly to NordVPN technical resources. Sigg

Python is not needed for OpenVPN platforms.
