OSMC security update for OSMC 2017.09-1 and earlier - OSMC

Platforms affected:

A series of vulnerabilities [1] have been discovered in WPA2, a protocol that secures all modern protected Wi-Fi networks. An attacker within range of a victim can exploit these weaknesses using key reinstallation attacks (KRACKs). Concretely, attackers can use this novel attack technique to read information that was previously assumed to be safely encrypted.

Wow, that was fast. Thank you for the update.

Kudos on the quick update and taking the security of your users seriously.

@sam_nazarko can this also be prevented by hiding your wifi in router settings so no device can see it. If they can’t see it can they still connect to it ???

No, the issue is do with a security flaw on the client devices, not wifi access points. Anyone who had the means to exploit this flaw, would also have the means of seeing hidden wifi ssid.

Tom.
