OSMC USB install - WD Red 3TB problem

The usb hdd has it’s own external power supply.
Usb 3.0 is the connection, which is compatible with usb 2.0.
The Pi2 is powered by 2.5A PSU.

Regards and thanks for help.

Well than suggest to try one of the two options I pointed out to figure out where your problem lies

Ok, I will try both methods and after will make a recapitulation.

So my final solution:

Installed OSMC on microSD and attached my WD Red as storage drive (formated as NTFS/GPT).
Everything is working fine.

What do you think is this an OK solution or there are better possibilities?

Well if you have a fast and quality SD Card (that is big enough) than the solution is fine.
On the other hand it might be interesting to find out why the GPT install failed.

Yes strange that GPT install can’t go through. I have Samsung Evo Plus microSD, which is, I believe one of the better choices.

Little update: This WD Red died after 7 days of use. Dropped down the health to 78% and got 37 weak sectors. I don’t know if this common behaviour among Red’s or just picked up an weak unit.
Tomorrow I will send it back and ask for the replace.
My 4 years old WD Elements 1TB will doing the job till new Red arrives.
