Pink/Green Static when playing certain files on Vero 5 and LG OLED 65 C2

I’m not sure what caused this issue to start happening, either the November update to osmc or a software update to my LG OLED 65 C2. I’ve only noticed the issue since the Novembers update to OSMC but my TV updates regularly so the issue could easily be from one of those updates.

I’ve been encountering several files that display weird green/pink static on my TV but sound works fine. I usually stop the playback and find another source until one plays normally. When files that don’t play correctly my tv displays a Dolby Vision message.

I believe the issue has something to do with HDR vs Dolby Vision but my knowledge on subject is a bit lacking, so I’ve been doing some reading on Dolby Vision on the wiki and seems like I have much to learn about the area. As I continue to read and learn I thought I would make this post and see if any smarter people than myself might have some advice.

I haven’t tried much for troubleshooting yet except powering off the main power to all devices for like 5 minutes and grabbing some logs. I’m pretty sure I read the powering off suggestion in another thread for a similar issue.

I believe I have captured the correct logs here: https://paste.osmc.tv/ruxowivagi

Can you post the TV firmware version in case others have the same issue?

Another user’s Visio was playing up after a firmware bump. He did a factory reset on the TV, after which it updated itself again and all was good. Maybe that’s worth a try?

Sure I will see if can try to figure out how to factory reset the TV. My tv Model is OLED65C2PUA and is running WebOS 25 / 10.2.2-58 Dolby Vision Version 28.10 and my audio receiver is a onkyo tx-nr5100

I’ve found that if I change Force HDR Processing: In Settings > Player > Videos, set HDR processing to Force HDR. The files seem to play and now my tv displays HDR instead of Dolby vision. I can’t remember but this might have been the behaviour before the November update, I have never really looked into any of these settings before and this was set to auto when it was doing the pink/green static. This change will probably keep me satisfied but willing to troubleshoot further if needed/wanted. I did actually try a factory reset on my TV which didn’t seem to change anything.

Those are likely DV files that are not playing back correctly on your display.

Was your HDR processing setting on AUTO before?

Yes it was set to Auto when the pink/green static shows up. When set to force HDR no green/pink

I noticed also this problem just recently with my set-up.
Some videos start with green pink static, but not like the green/pink tint as was the case with DV vids in the past, before the tone mapping was implemented for DV.

I found a solution which works for me.

When encountering a video which is showing the green pink static I stop playback of said file and start a DV file, which is working properly. Then I stop this one and go back to the one which has the static issue and then it works properly. This has to be repeated when the Vero V is in “sleep” mode, when my system is turned off.

We will check this out, thanks for the report.
