Playback issues - Video not starting but audio does

I’m experiencing issues with the playback of some new videos from the show that I’m following. When I try to start the video, I get a black screen and the sound plays. I made a log on http://paste.osmc.io/vodumelisi.xml

Is this a known issues or are there some settings I need to change?

Kind regards,
Erik

It’s hard to tell without full logs.

Sam

hi Sam,

I added a link to the log that was rendered but if I did something wrong or not make it complete enough, how can I get the information that you are missing here?

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

Thanks for the explanation ooZee. I did the first three steps, but did not use the Log Uploader. I just used my Windows explorer and went to \osmc.kodi\temp and grabbed the log from there. That resulted in this http://paste.osmc.io/vodumelisi.xml but I’ll make sure I’ll follow your guide and post a new link.

@ooZee I followed the steps that you wrote down. I hope this log gives a better insight

Is there anyone from OSMC that can help me out with the issues I’m facing? :pensive:

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in response, could you please provide mediainfo for one of the problematic videos?

But it looks like they are either 10 bit h264, which are not supported or a suspect encode.

Thanks Tom.

Hi Tom, thanks for reaching out. I opened up a video with Media Player Classic and copied the MediaInfo tab here: http://paste.osmc.io/afacarotek.coffee
hope this helps

kind regards,
Erik

Do they play ok in MPC or VLC?

Thanks Tom.

Yes, on both my Mac and Windows laptop they run on MPC/VLC etc. So the files aren’t damaged

Hi,

I think there is an issue with the suspect encode, which the gpu is having issues decoding. Your PC are Mac will be using the CPU to decode, The vero won’t been able to as they are hvec. All I can suggest is try re-encoding using handbrake, being as they are 1080p h264 will be normal.

Thanks Tom.
