Problem: empty advancedsettings.xml after update

Hi,

in order to get my streaming video well I added a advancedsettings.xml file. This was working fine after a number of setting changes. However after the last update (the one with the new screen layout) I noticed my video’s were stuttering again. After checking the advancedsettings file I found that the file was empty. So I think the update cleared the file.

Is this true and done on purpose, or is it a bug?

Where was your advancedsettings.xml located ?

If it was located in /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata then no - nothing should touch this file.

Kodi itself never writes to this file, and none of the package upgrade scripts do either, for either the skin package or any other for that matter. In short nothing should ever touch this file, and I can’t even think of a way that a malfunctioning update could delete it as that whole folder is not touched by anything update related. Was the file empty or missing entirely ?

Note: some 3rd party addons are known to mess around with advancedsettings.xml and some other system files, are you sure you don’t have one of these addons installed ? Any kodi addon you have installed has sufficient file system permissions to delete or overwrite advancedsettings.xml if it so chose.

Yep, the file is located in /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata.

The file was there all right, but empty.

Good to know that kodi or osmc didn’t mess with this file.

Installed several add-ons but none of them can edit this file, that is, front end.

I don’t know what the back-end is doing.

What add-ons are known to case troubles in the advancedsettings file?

Hi DBMandrake,
I can’t find any advancedsettings.xml files in the /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata
Where is it ?

It doesn’t exist unless you create it.

Once the file is created, OSMC will automatically access it and will configurate itself the way the file require ?
Or maybe we have to modify something else ?

‘’‘Once the file is created, OSMC will automatically access it and will configurate itself the way the file require ?’’’

After a restart of Kodi, yes.
