Problems viewing DVD Movies

I have en external Bluray drive, conected to the Vero through an SATA->USB bridge. When I insert a DVD it shows up as a hard disk, but some DVDs will not play. Ie our old copy of “Planet 51” that is great for testing the surround system, plays, but not, say Maze Runner:

I realise that I am probably missing a codec, but which one and how do I get it? Or is it encryption?

Can you please post full debug logs?

Is this a Blu-ray or DVD?

They were regular DVDs. I tried with two this time. The first, Maze Runner first errored, but then played, the second one, Sound of Music/West Side Story, did not play at all.

Logs uploaded as: uyaseyameb

Any updates on this?

Sorry – I need full logs to look at this.

OK? So the log I uploaded was incomplete? If so, then what should I do to get a full log?

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

OSMC skin screenshot:

But that is what I did  Apart from the reboot twice stuff. I then uploaded the log, as I wrote in the preivious mail:

Logs uploaded as: uyaseyameb

But I will do this again tonight

Guess @sam_nazarko overlooked it as it was not a link to the logs http://paste.osmc.tv/uyaseyameb
As they are still valid you may not need to upload again

Sorry about that, but I can test again when home.

OK. I did exactly as in the instructions. Was not sure whether to select “component specific logging” so I did.

I did indeed overlook this post.

I see that you are trying to play from a physical disk drive. That seems to be giving some errors:

Sometimes this is a region lock issue.

OK. Is there a way around that? Should I try copying the files to disk and play from there?

It would be interesting to know if doing that works at all. I suspect you won’t be able to copy the files or they might appear to copy but be corrupted (as the nature of the DVD protection scheme).

I can certainly try. IIRC was it possible to change/circumvent the region stuff on regular DVD players in the past?

You can change the region a few times usually, but after that, the drive is stuck on that region.
