Problems with hdr etc

Hello!
i recently got my vero 4k and i’m happy with it, but i’m having troubles with 4k hdr…

and i really don’t get it. i have a sony kd55-xe9305 (which should be able to play all these different “things”).

now i made some tests with different videos from:
Test 1: Philips: Surf UHD 4K Demo | 4K Media tv doesn’t switch to HDR10 automatically - i can change it via menu and it’s ok

Test 2: Sony: Camping In Nature HDR UHD 4K Demo | 4K Media tv switches automatically to HDR10

to see if my tv switchtes automatically i have to go through the whole menu (yay, android tv) and all i get is a little sign “HDR” in the picture menu. until now i didn’t find out where i can find more information

how can i even see if my vero provides the right output?
do i have to change something under settings (already set “Adjust Display Refresh Rate” to “always” and “Sync Playback to Display” to “off”)?

i would appriciate some help here
cheers

You need to disable Sync Playback to Display if that’s enabled.

If you see ‘HDR’ in the menu, then it sounds like it’s working.

yep, but it’s only working partially:
made two additional tests:
star trek discovery 1080/24p hdr - hdr10 was automatically activated
with jellyfish-120-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv not
“Sync Playback to Display” is disabled.

That file isn’t an HDR file.

and this one?

are there reference demo files for testing with vero?

cheers

Don’t think that’s HDR either.

Not all 4k content is HDR.

Try searching for some of the LG HDR demos.

Take a look at http://hdrsamples.com/

and HDR UHD 4K Demos | 4K Media

how can i tell if a file is HDR? (mediainfo?)
and how can i tell if the vero 4k has the right output to tv?

yesterday i watched a movie and tv show (netflix) but both times my tv didn’t switch to hdr…

cheers!

Most TVs will say ‘HDR’ when the mode is activated I believe.

yeah i get that, but i’d like to verify the whole chain:
source (hdr or not?)
vero
tv (input?)

is there no way to inspect the source file on a windows pc? something like mediainfo?
and isn’t it possible to get the “playing” info within kodi/osmc?

Yes, MediaInfo can check HDR information as of November 2017

The system journal should also show when HDR mode is engaged
