Edit: mp4 should play out of the box though. If it doesn’t post mediainfo.
mp4 is a container format so it depends on the codec inside but most should actually play.
It would be good if we could find out more about the file you are having issues playing. Please see the mediainfo section in How to submit a useful support request - General - OSMC

This should be able to be played. Which Pi are you using and also are you playing locally (form Harddisk or SD card) or via Network?
You said the file was mp4 but the mediainfo is for an mkv file - which is it?
Does the file play with another player (e.g. VLC on windows)?
