Raspberry Pi - OSMC - Stop and start it in order to save money

Hello,

I have a raspberry Pi 2 with OSMC and an external hard drive disk (Samsung D3 2To).

I have several question about start and stop raspberry Pi or OSMC in order to save money.

1 - Is it necessary to stop and start OSMC when we use it in order to save money or for other reason (performance) ? If it is the case, how to make it possible from a remote (Kodi remote application on smartphone) ?

2 - Does the Harddrive automatically stop and start when we don’t use or use it ? I ask this question because I use only it as a mediacenter so I don’t need a permanent alimentation.

Thanks :slightly_smiling:

No… unless you are worried about saving $2/year. The device is designed to be always on.

Yes, it should. If it doesn’t, we can offer assistance in troubleshooting the issue.

Hello ActionA,

Thanks a lot for the fast answer :slightly_smiling:

I will let my Raspberry Pi run everytimes then.

Hello,

I come back because after some tries I realised that my HDD doesn’t stop when I don’t use it…

Can I have any help about it ?

Moreover, it is an USB 3.0 drive (Samsung D3 2To), is it anyway to have best transferts performance because i’m limited from the 2.0 port on raspberry ?

Thank you.
