Raspi4 - OSMC 20260505 Build - Fresh install - CEC (samsung) not detecting box

Hello,

i’m hoping someone can help. Been running this setup for years. About a week ago my Pi started acting weird, lost time, dropped the mounted drives, wouldn’t play videos. Long story short, I think the SD card corrupted. New SD card, and fresh install of OSMC.

Now however, my Samsung TV (a 15 year old plasma, not smart) cannot detect the Pi as a CEC connected device. It detects my firestick, so I know the CEC is working.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Fresh clean install of OSMC
  • Enabling the samsung remote option in MyOSMC
  • Reviewing and enabling the CEC settings in the device settings
  • Removing the powercord from the TV
  • Switching HDMI ports
  • Removing the powercord from everything at the same time, turning back on

Any suggestions on what to try now? The box is accessible through SSH or USB connected keyboard at this point in time.

Did you do that for several minutes?

Enable debug logging with CEC component logging and upload a log.

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

If you haven’t do so I’d try a different PSU on the Pi. A PSU on it’s way out can cause all kinds of strange problems with a Pi (Got the T-shirt, I have 4 x 3b’s doing different things )

Thank you for your replies, here are the logs:

I enabled CEC logging and toggled the actual setting on and off a bit as well.

The TV and PI were both unplugged for several minutes, the TV itself was also unplugged for around 20 minutes as a previous troubleshooting step.

I just switched out the PSU too, as well why not! No change in condition with the new power supply.

Reviewing the logs myself, I see that ioctl CEC_TRANSMIT failed, researching this, I see that in the rebuilding of my Pi it would seem I plugged into a different HDMI out port the left most one, when I had been using the right most one before. I switched back, unplugged everything for a couple minutes, then miraculously it works. I think maybe only one HDMI port supports CEC?

That is, of course, a matter of perspective. The primary display output, hdmi-0, should be used; it is the port located directly next to the USB-C power port. The logs show that hdmi-1 was used.
