Remote control dead

Have the unit less than a week been struggling getting it running finally got everything sorted out with the TV tuner and EPG that wasn’t loading quite impressed with the system.

BUT?

The supply room won’t control has ceased to work countless attempts of resetting the unit half a dozen new batteries to which within the first day the remote did work but three hours in a message came on the screen remote control battery is low???
So I install the battery and the day after the thing stopped working.

I had a mini USB Bluetooth keyboard that helped me stumble around the menus and finally got my old Silver Apple TV remote control to work with the unit, but I need the proper remote control

Log file as follows https://paste.osmc.tv/avesolorix

Would hate to send the whole unit back, but it’s pointless without a remote control

Logs look good. The remote receiver is being detected correctly.

Did you replace the remote with a new CR2032 battery or ones lying around? Did you verify they are indeed CR2032 batteries?

Be careful when removing the battery and don’t use sharp instruments to remove it as you can damage the battery contacts.

Hello Sam, yes replace the batteries several times with brand-new batteries. Panasonic ones even took the battery out of my Apple TV Silver remote control and still did not work…

I’m sorry I have bombarded you with messages from different platforms but I was literally pulling my hair out after reading all the excellent feedback of this unit. Now I have managed to configure it correctly with the TV dongle and my NAS drives. It worked excellent, but the issue is the remote control.
I am suspecting that the remote control is infrared so I turned my lights out and looked at the end of the remote through my iPhone and nothing seemed to be lighting up.
Hope you can sort it, thanks

The remote control is RF based, not infrared. At the front of the remote there is a plastic window with a blue LED. This light should blink when you press a button and is visible under normal light conditions. I have attached a photo so you can see where the light is.

Can you confirm if you see this light?

We will get this solved for you promptly.

No just three extra new batteries, Panasonic and no

Also, can you control the unit with a smart phone or anything from a different room?

You can control from your PC or smartphone
You can probably also control it via your TV remote using CEC.

There might be an issue with the remote. Happy to swap it over, just send an email on one of the tickets that are open.

Make sure the battery is making good contact with the remote, try and twist it in as you put it in.

I have tried the thing with the battery and no joy.

Also, I want to run the movies through My network into another room like I do on my present system so how do I control the box while watching the pictures from a different room?

Does the smart phone need special app?

You can always control it via a Webbrowser (after you activate the Webserver).
But more comfortable with an App.
If you have an Android Phone the best App is Yatse for IOS you can use Official Kodi Remote

Hi Sam thanks for your patience. I have removed the battery cover and battery again and the little contact in the middle. I would presume as the negative contact was flat against the body so I have got my tweezers and bent it upwards to about 45° replace the battery and Eureka it works.

Fantastic I have also changed the skin of the system and it looks brilliant so thank you again for your help but please answer the last questions I asked. Does it need a app for the smart phone? And how can I control the unit from a different room and watching the pictures in a different room, thank you.

I already have answered that.

The above mentioned App should be good enough. If you want to see exactly 1:1 as to what is on the main TV then you need to install VNC from OSMC App Store and use VNC Client to control. That will give you the same picture as the TV (but it will not show you the Video that is played.

sorry

Glad to hear the remote is now working.

Hi again now it’s gone off. It is like it’s loses power the blue light when pressing the button buttons is bright then diminishes then the remote control stops working. They are brand-new Panasonic batteries so I think that the remote is dodgy. Can you sort it? I have to take the battery out Then put it Back and then it works for a few more presses and then does the same goes off

Hi, this is getting stupid. I think you’ll have to arrange to send a new remote control out. Take the battery out put the battery in works for about three clicks then stops working thanks

This proves that the remote control is garbage and there is a problem. It had new batteries in just after the last message and this is what I was greeted with when I’ve just switched the channel over.

The remote control is obviously faulty and now wasted about eight batteries

Perhaps there is a short between the remote contacts, particularly if you have bent pins in the remote. Until you changed the battery, it was working fine?

Did you re-pair the remote using Home and OK as suggested?
Is the device located near WiFi equipment?

We can replace it, just send an email.

I said, when using it and the light was working, you could see it going fainted and fainted and fainted

I put an email on the last open ticket

Sorry I’m getting confused with all the messages that was forward. I’ve sent an email from my registered email address including my address.

Just confused

Thanks. I will keep an eye out for the email. Nothing received yet.

I responded to your emails. To keep things in one place please try and just send one message at a time. We will solve this issue but sending several emails doesn’t get it solved faster. It just takes more time to read through everything.

Cheers

Sam
