You have to determine if they are even passed to Kodi by CEC. Enable debug logging and watch the kodi.log while pressing the buttons to see if there is any recognition. If there is not, then they are useless for remapping in Kodi.
When you have enabled debug logging as ActionA said, you can use the following command to see the kodi.log “live” it makes it a little easier.
tail -f /home/osmc/.kodi/temp/kodi.log
