Remote not working after November 3 update

Yes, I have tried both a warm restart (reboot) and a cold (power cord) reboot. Same results.

The bundled remote will not pair with or without the dongle. The USB card appears to be detected and contains recent backups of my system. But it is hard to tell without a working remote.

OK can you attach that ‘bundled’ dongle and get the output of

sudo apt-get install usbutils
lsusb -v | paste-log

Would also be useful to know if the bundled dongle works in the port with the USB storage.

The USM storage is the microSIM card. That seems to be recognized and working. Here is the output of your commands.

osmc@osmc5:~$ sudo apt-get install usbutils

Hang on – I’m getting a bit confused here.

  1. If you’re using a micro SD card, that isn’t USB based.
  2. I can see that the remote dongle you’ve plugged in is a USB receiver for the Vero 4K / 4K+:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 2017:1689 OSMC Remote Controller USB Keyboard Mouse
Device Descriptor:
  bLength 18
  bDescriptorType 1
  bcdUSB 1.10
  bDeviceClass 0
  bDeviceSubClass 0
  bDeviceProtocol 0
  bMaxPacketSize0 8
  idVendor 0x2017
  idProduct 0x1689

This will not work on a Vero V, which explains why the remote is not pairing.

We don’t ship an external adapter with Vero V, which is why I was a bit confused and wondered if you’d purchased or requested an additional one.

So it looks like the internal receiver is not being detected.

Do you know the last release of OSMC you were on? To rule out an issue with the last update, you could install the previous known working version for you. I would be surprised if this was the cause of the issue however.

The unit did not work without the dongle either. I never had it plugged in. The bundled remote does not pair in either case. I was always on the latest release of OSMC. The August update worked fine.

I’m confused - you said it did not work without the dongle. So you’re saying you had to have it plugged in for the remote to work? That isn’t possible because the dongle you are plugging in is for an older Vero 4K.

You could try install the August release, but I am a bit confused now as you said you have never used the dongle externally but now say it never worked without it, unless you mean that removing the dongle hasn’t remedied the situation.

I only plugged in the dongle after you suggestion to try it. I have been using the Vero V for months without any dongle - just the microSIM storage. I always kept my Vero V up to date with the latest upgrade. When the October update dropped the unit was working fine with the bundled remote. When the unit rebooted after the update - that is when the bundled remote stopped working. I only dug out the old dongle at your suggestion.

Is that the next suggestion? To revert back to the last update? How do I do that?

I’ll give you an update on this tomorrow. It’s quite late here.

OK. Thanks. I want to get this back up and operational as soon as I can.

While it is important to get the OSMC remote to work as before for you I still wonder why you don’t use any of the alternatives in the meantime:

  1. Your TV remote via CEC (should you at least give enough control to navigate and watch movies
  2. Use any Kodi remote applications (either just via Webbrowser or install a Kodi remote like Yatse on Android).

Good morning,

thanks for looking into this Sam

Mine was also working fine with the update before the last one.

I have no usb devices attached but could try plug in a usb drive and see if its accesible if that helps with troubleshooting.

I have also attempted several cold bootst to no avail

I use a Harmony for my system which has never worked with the Vero. It still does not. It looks like I will have to find some other control device but my phone and computer and not usually in my watching area.

It’s now been quite a while since releasing the OSMC Update and we’ve only had your report and @delphikis.

My guess is that the USB receiver has failed. You can contact support@osmc.tv regarding a replacement.

Harmony is widely used on OSMC. If you want to get that running, I’d suggest opening a new thread and describing what you’ve tried and how you’re trying to use it (IR or BT) and we can assist.

OK. I will contact support. It is surprising how much I miss my Vero. It is central to all my media. It does however seem very, very strange for the problem to have occurred exactly during the update process. Oh well. Thanks.

could just be an unlucky coincidence , it certainly doesnt seem to be a widespread issue

thanks sam, ive contacted support

Hi All,

My device concerns a Vero V with no modifications or additions.
Just a Power connection, Ethernet cable and HDMI cable.

Got the exact same symptoms here:
After a previous update, my remote stopped working completely.
Batteries are OK, lights up when a button is pressed.

I was waiting for another update, hoping this would reverse the problem.
However last update did not solve the issue.

There does not seem to be a solution?
Should I share my logging?

Kind regards, Hans

Yes without logging it’s hard to tell. But if you contact support@osmc.tv we can take it from there

Thanks

Sam
