Rewind on file via smb causes playback to stop/hang

Uploaded my logs: http://paste.osmc.io/ikawepapud

Here’s the mediainfo output for the file I testing to generate the logs, but to be clear this has happened with other file-types/codecs as well:

Ok – I’ll see if I can replicate this issue.

Thanks

Any luck in replicating the issue?

Not yet. I watch TV on my Vero 4K (it’s my only viewing device) and I’ve been rewinding without issue.

I typically watch 1080p h264 content with a track that can be passed through (i.e. Dolby or DTS). I’m streaming from an FTP server.

I can understand this is quite annoying. There’s a few issues that I want to get resolved first and then I’ll revisit this, and try and replicate with Big Buck Bunny from the eMMC (no success yet). The original post is re. SMB though, so I will also try with this.

Sam

Totally understand, it’s not critical, I’m just devoting today to “status updates” across everything I’ve been working on.

I’m streaming directly from the SD card, I will copy the file to my windows machine then try via SMB to see if I’m seeing the same behavior, and like I said it seems to be the same across various types of codecs.

I too am use passthrough audio if that matters. I’ll try to turn that off, and see if it impacts my ability to rewind.

THANKS!
-Zac

Thanks – it will be interesting to know if disabling passthrough changes anything, although I suspect it won’t.

Sam

Yup, disabling passthrough didn’t change anything.

Hit rewind, lil “-X2” box shows up, screen image freezes, time-countdown decreases. Press play. Get “buffering” message, then the whole thing hangs (except the counter does continue to increment), and only “Stop” works.

I’m using a different remote control, so just to make sure that wasn’t an issue I re-plugged in the original OSMC remote, and tried it again, and got exactly the same results.

Also I just tested via SMB and the exact same issue.

Can confirm this happens to me too via SMB. Hadn’t nailed down exact circumstances, but had noticed it freezing.

A user also experienced this on Pi and showed me this issue: http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/17285

I’m experiencing the same behavior, so here is my log, in case the additional info can be helpfull.

I tested multiple file-types (H.264 included) and I always get the same behavior. Also not a “stall”, this is a full hang; nothing besides STOP will allow you any control of the player. I haven’t specifically tested if the files contain subtitles. I’ll try to find a file without them and see if I get the same behavior.

I also tried changed the buffer settings in advancedsettings.xml and still not able to rewind.

I even thought maybe it was a keymapping issue with my remote, but I reinstalled the original OSMC dongle/remote and still no dice.

I’m still working on this.

Cheers

Sam

Was just updating my testing results. THANKS! You guys are awesome!

Cool @Sam, hopefully you have a solution soon!

Just to add another data point: I experience the same over NFS using passthrough. I could provide logs when still needed…

Cheers

Looks like a Kodi bug upstream. Annoyingly I can no longer replicate it. So I will PM a couple of users shortly to ask about setup specifics.

I still have the problem with each file streamed from the NAS. Very annoying.

Any update please? Pretty annoying bug. With randomly screaming kids I have to sometimes reverse. Currently I just miss part of the show / movie :frowning:

I spoke to another user about this and it seems that seeking is OK (i.e. step back or forward) but the rewind / ff process is not.

Skip steps should let you work around this for now, but I am still working
on a fix for this.

Yeah, I’m still seeing this behavior with ANY media source: addon, local, smb, nas, etc. Do any kind of rewind and the player hangs.
