Rhythmic Freezing Of 4K Movies/TV Series After November Update

Also, when I swap the 4K+ with the 4K, playing the same 4K movies & 4K TV episodes from the same HDDs, play OK every time. That’s with swapping between the powered hubs as well.

That rules out the HDDs & powered hubs. If there was a problem with the HDDs or hubs, then those bad playing 4K movies & 4K TV episodes, should exhibit the same problems when played through the 4K, which they don’t.

The cause of the problem has to be with the 4K+

Are both devices running the exact same image from Download - OSMC?

Both on exact same image and configured the same and with updates turned off.

All playback issues are not resolved. Box need needs to be rebooted everyday and sometimes after each 4k file otherwise it hangs and goes sad face icon. Your last comment on the scrolling thread was to wait until the 19.4 update. That’s not resolved.

I believe those are two separate issues. Can you get logs after the sad face?

In my case I can confirm theoldfarter’s issue.

So you also have two devices on an identical installation and only one is affected?

Still investigating.

No, I can confirm that my Vero 4k+ is affected but with the same issues.

Okay – so sometimes the file works and sometimes it doesn’t, and not all files are affected?

Yes, exactly.

I have the same problems. Some HEVC 4K content won’t play while others play fine. When I play “The Witcher”, all content that was previously stuttering works again. Even after reboot.

There must be an issue with Kodi from the Vero 4K+… everything was working fine until recently.

Which version did you upgrade from?

I always use the Vero with the latest version.

Switched on at the wall, after being off for 26 hours. 4K movies played badly, all 10 in a row that I tried.

Played some 4K TV series:
The Beatles Get Back 2021 … played badly.
Altered Carbon 2018 … S01E01 … played badly.
Sense8 2015 … S01E01 … played OK.

Played the previous 10 4K movies, all played OK.

It was by chance that I discovered that The Witcher 4K TV series ‘fixed’ the bad playback of 4K movies. Now I have found a different series that does the same.

I think that discovering why will be challenging.

My other Vero, the 4K, plays everything OK.

There seem to be two threads about the same issue.

Indeed, please keep your issue contained to it’s original thread. Spamming the same info all over the forum will not get anything fixed faster, it just causes a lot of thread jumping grief for those trying to help.

My thread was created on November 21st 2021. It is the FIRST thread created about this HEVC 4K Movies/TV Series playback problem.

On the thread “HECV issues with Vero4K+”, created December 21st 2021, I did one post notifying Cyberagent that I had sent him a message. The message was simply to help a fellow member with a ‘workaround’ I found, to enable his 4K files to play smoothly. My other posts were in answer to questions asked by tanio99 (OSMC Developer), grahamh (Moderator).

On the thread “HEVCs sometime don’t work”, created January 25th 2022, I did one post informing @opflohr & @Poty, that I have a similar problem to theirs, that could be related.

I take exception to you calling me a spammer!

It’s being looked in to.

It’s been a while – but we haven’t been sitting around.
We are planning to release an update with some significant video improvements in the near future, but we need some feedback. I’ve sent a PM to affected users, which @grahamh thankfully kept track of.

As fixing these playback issues are a priority, we will delay our transition to Debian Bullseye to make sure that these issues are addressed first.

If you’re suffering from this issue and haven’t received a PM, let me know and you can be included in the testing.
