Root password

Hi I am having problems logging to with the root password. I have loged in to osmc with putty. Used command sudo passwd root. And changed it. But it would let me log in with winscp with that password.

I’m still unable to get in after reading this. I have installed Hyperion and made a config file and want to replace the file. Is there other way of doing this.

Just use sudo. If you prefix your editing commands with sudo, you can run as root without compromising your security.

How do I prefix the commands.

sudo.

As in

$ sudo nano /etc/fstab

Maybe some things here can be helpful for you.

I’m not sure what to do once iv entered the command

That was an example of HOW to use sudo, not something for you to actually do. Read the link that @ActionA provided.

If you don’t know what is sudo or how to use it is better that you don’t get root permissions.
