RPi3 Mode not Supported

I have an RPi3 and downloaded OSMC and installed 9 days ago. I believe the version is 2024.10-1. Some videos I have play fine, but some are failing and the TV is giving an error “mode not supported”. I have tried switching from 1080p to 720p for the UI but that makes no difference. I also set the RPi to use this setting “Settings>Player>Videos>Adjust display refresh rate> On start/stop”.

Not sure why some videos play fine and others do not.

Neither would we know unless you provide debug enabled logs and mediainfo of the files.

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

I’m sorry, I’m new to the forum. I’ll get the logging enabled and uploaded.

Thank you. I’m new to the forum and didn’t know about the steps to enable logging and upload.

I have enabled logging, rebooted twice and re-created the issue with two different video files. The logs are uploaded to the URL below.

Sync playback to display: true

Turn this off.

A RPi 3 isn’t going to be able to play that 1080p x265 (HEVC) as it lacks full hardware decoding of that codec and doesn’t have the CPU to overcome that limitation. You will want to stick with x264 (AVC) versions or upgrade to newer hardware that fully supports that codec.

Thanks very much, I’ll try that.

Ah, thank you very much. I’ll look into a newer RPi or choose the other versions.

Vero V is the flagship platform for running OSMC rather than the Raspberry Pi so consider that too. That comes with everything you need. For the Pi you may need to add on a case, power supply etc.
