I am likely to be in situation where a good Internet connection will not be available.
I am therefore going to take a portable large capacity drive with copy of my data. Are there any issues connecting the Vero and running it as a stand alone media server with drive connected by USB but no network connection?
Budge
The only thing vero really needs a network connection for is to set the time as it doesn’t have a battery-backed clock. You need to set the clock if the box has been off for a while.
Turn off automatic updates.
If you have any exotic add-ons that expect an internet connection and moan if one isn’t available you can disable them.
Great, nothing exotic on this device and thanks for the heads up on clock. Just wanted to be sure as I will be in unfamiliar territory.
Many thanks,
Budge
Just a thought, what about the PSU arrangements ?
I’d suggest separate PSUs for the portable large capacity drive and the Vero.
I don’t think that you would be wanting to power the drive from the Vero’s PSU via USB ?
I guess you could test this right now.
Hi and thanks for your point on power supply. I shall not have problem as the drive has it’s own mains supply but thanks for the precautionary note.
