Samba update?

From what I’ve been reading it looks like Windows 10 requires Samba 4.4+ to be able to browse another Samba client via the “Network” link.

Looks like OSMC is running Samba 4.2, which does allow manual connect via: “net use” or “Map Network Drive”, but my Vero4k doesn’t show up in the “Network Neighborhood”

Is there a way to manually update Samba via apt-get, or since that was installed through the “Store” is that something you guys have to do?

THANKS!

Where have you read this? You should be able to mount drives without issues. Discovery has been disabled because of issues with the automount template; but this won’t actually stop you connecting to attached media.

Samba and Windows 10 should be working fine, unless there’s been an update in the last couple of weeks that has changed this.

We use Samba from Debian’s repository, which will remain at 4.2 for Jessie.

It probably been working because SMB1 is turned on by default in Windows, but with WANNACRY everyone was instructed to turn off SMB1 on Windows machines.

Here’s a link about the 4.3 release candidate, but I read else where it wasn’t until 4.4 (I’m still trying to find that link)

Interesting, thanks for the reference.

Samba version is currently 4.5.8 in Stretch, which we’ll move to in the near future, so it’s one of those
things that will fix themselves

Kewl. Yeah, I can manually connect, so I’m OK for now, it’s just the “browsing” that seems to be impacted.

So what’s the timeline for Stretch?

Just as an FYI, I have my Vero setup as both Workgroup/Domain master, and I have my router handing out the IP to my Vero as the WINS server and I’ve confirmed all the computers are in the same workgroup.

We need Debian to release Stretch before we can look at moving to it.
Short answer is when it’s stable. We’ll do some testing before then and make that publicly available.

I’m sorry, I just meant when is Debian releasing Stretch; quick google and looks like it releases on the 17th. No biggy, just wanted it logged in the forum incase anyone else came across this issue after they turned of SMB1.

THANKS!!!
