Samsung One remote

My LG TV broken and OSMC was working perfectly well on it.
I brought a new Samsung TV, and it came with the new “One control” with it.
The remote is ridiculously small, has maybe a dozen buttons and no way to customize it at all.

my question is: Has anybody using the same remote control to controlling OSMC?
If so, what were the configurations? Because nothing is working here.

Thanks a lot,

P.S. For the experts, there is a way to test if OSMC is, at least, recognizing the pressed buttons? I don’t mind to use command line if needed.

If you enable debug logging, it should show if Kodi is detecting key presses.

Good to know.
Should I enable debug logging in general or something in particular? Like CEC module of it…

If your wanting to do the command line then ssh and…

kodi-send -a toggledebug
tail -f ~/.kodi/temp/kodi.log | grep -B 1 'HandleKey'

This should show any keypresses Kodi picks up in isolation. To exit tail you ctrl+c and then just run the first command again to turn off debug logging.

BTW, did you remember to enable CEC in your TV’s settings? Some don’t come with it enabled by default.

Thanks a lot Darwin.

And yes, I enable it. It was one of the first things that I did…

I got a Samsung, with one of those remotes. While it worked for me, sending CEC commands, the next problem with them is that the play/pause button doesn’t send “play” or “pause”, the television shows an OSD for play and pause and rewind and fast forward.

This means to play or pause, you don’t simply hit the button - you hit the play/pause button, hit the “down” or “up” button to choose “play” or “pause”, then hit the button to confirm.

Great remote, terrible television software.

The solution is to buy a older IR remote, I got one on AliExpress - a bn59-01039a

There is a smaller newer one that will work and I got as well but it has a rounded bottom and any time you touch it, it goes “ba donkydonkdonk” and it’s very irritating

@jakebriggs Thanks for your reply. I was able to “see” the CEC key numbers on the logs, so indeed it is receiving and transposing to the apropriate number, but still can’t make it work. out of curiosity I’ll take a look in this older iR remote to check it out.

If they are showing up in the log they should be able to be made to work. Have you tried mapping thing with the keymap editor add-on? Also what device are you using? If your using a RPi 4 do you have the HDMI port plugged into the port closest to the USB C power input.

Yes, it is a RPi4 and I’m using the closet to power HDMI port. And yes, I tried Keymap editor but it didn’t even recognize the presses.
That’s why I decided to take a look into the logs to check if the presses are being “read” by RPi.

So far I’m using my smartphone as a remote, but it’s not the ideal because the other person in my house does not want to install in her phone so, I’m still trying to fix the remote…

Now, I’ll try to uninstall and reinstall the add-on. But I don’t expect too much difference to be honest.
The next step, which I really don’t want to do, is to reinstall the whole system…
