Setup the webinterface accessible via typing "osmc" in the browser

Hi,

I’m playing around with OSMC, but my girlfriend complains about the accessibility of the device. Now I’ve noticed the webinterface to be quite usefull I’d like het to be able to simply type osmc in the browser, instead of the full ip (which might change). Probably this is not a Pi or OSMC related question, but hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

This depends on Avahi / Bonjour based DNS resolution on your network, and can’t be wholely implemented by OSMC.

If you have iTunes on your system, you may find http://osmc.local magically works.

You could set up a static IP on your router or in My OSMC → Networking and edit your HOSTS file to hard-code a hostname. On Windows this can be found under C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, and on OS X and Linux it is /etc/hosts.

Wow thanks, I notice that on my mac http://osmc.local indeed works like a charm. I’ll be testing that on her laptop later! The static IP will be a little difficult, the router is secured with an unknown password

They can be reset, and I recommend you do that one day. For now you can set static IP in OSMC itself under My OSMC → Network. Check the bottom of the router too, they have passwords on them sometimes.

There’s no such app called kore on iOS

Search for kodi remote.
Might be called differently there.
