[SOLVED] "Installation Failed: Could not mount bootfs"

[The solution was to use a different USB, 32GB in my case.]

Hello.
I am new to the world of OSMC.
I have heard about it from a video, and I decided to install it on my Apple TV, 1st gen.
Straight to the point.
After flashing the image into my flash drive, I plugged it into the only USB port it has and it went well, until it showed “Installation Failed: Could not mount bootfs”.
I have tried redownloading and reflashing, but it’s always the same.
The model is “A1218”, one optical audio port, one HDMI, one ETHERNET, component ports and a single USB port.
The version of OSMC is 2017.08-1-HDD.
I hope someone can help me on this problem.
I will answer all questions as fast as I can.

How big is the USB drive?
Have you tried another USB?

To be blunt, 1st gen Apple TV isn’t going to give you a great experience in 2025.

Sam

I see that size matters since you ask…
It’s a 128GB USB drive, but I can use a 32 GB one too.
What would be the ideal size for an USB?
And I don’t really care about performance, I just want to experiment on the Apple TV since I’m not a fan of apple.

Yeah…
The 32GB USB was the key…
Well, thanks for the tip, it went through that screen and said “succesfully installed”, but now theres no signal.
I’ll try rebooting though.

Update: It works.

Glad to hear this
