Some DV files are Black in Vero V

Just to add some more data points:

  • I checked all my other DV’s, even brand new shows (Foundation, Star Trek; eps size > 9Gb) , all have no issue playing DV
  • Yesterday I got the latest update for my Sony A95L, but no change in behavior nor improvement on the aforementioned 2 movies (How.to.Train.Your.Dragon.2025, Jurassic.World.Rebirth.2025)
  • I tried 2 other releases of (Jurassic.World.Rebirth.2025), and got the same bad behavior. However I suspect they are based on the same original video source
  • I switched both my AVR and TV to HMDI Enhanced 4K120/8K60, and the AVR recognizes the change but no change in behavior either; Which actually is fully normal because the Vero can’t output such bandwidth but I wanted to try anyhow.
  • I also noticed that if I keep the Vero playing on that specific movie and the TV restarts, it after rebooting just remains black and doesn’t restart again; During restart are 2 interruptions in the audio (interruptions coming from: 1. TV restart, 2. Google start) but then the Vero and AVR (audio) happily keep playing.
If I then stop the movie, the image returns to the Kodi skin as if nothing happened. I can then still play any other movie without issue.

I’m really wondering what exactly in that video source is causing this. But let’s wait until we have another test case - and let’s hope it both are one-offs.

New to the forum, had my Vero V about a year now and been impressed but recently had this issue with Dolby Vision video files playing sound and then just a black screen with no video playback, following this conversation doesn’t look like it’s been solved since discussion in August - has anyone found a fix for this that is somewhere else?

Think we probably need to see a log to advise.

Some information about your display and receiver would also be useful.

Hi,

I met the same issue today. All my DV titles gone black, also the ones I watched already. The sound is playing fine. I remembered that I disabled “Adjust Screen Refeshrate” recently so I enabled this again on movie start, then the DV titles play normally again.

Is this a normal behaviour?

Stephen

Yes
