SPDIF/Optical Out very loose...no sound

Ok…all working. …managed to find loose flap, stuck it back in…pushed opt cable in square…and taped it up…not ideal…but working and that is how I am going to leave it…

To be fair to Sam these connections are frail and for me I would rather have coax out…but it’s working so that’s all good then!
M

A socket without a flap would be better… IMHO :see_no_evil:

Or coax, yep!

Okay, if I remove the cable diagonally (up or down) with force, I can damage the flap.
That might be something we can improve in future.

I’ve received an email from you so will get back to you with that shortly.

Hi team,

OK…so no sound through Optical out now. It will go though HDMI direct to TV but not from Vero 4k to Dac. There is a red light coming from the Optical lead just no sound. Have changed various leads/combo’s but to no avail. I am at a loss.

What should I do?

M

Can you show us your audio settings and some logs?

Sam

Here are some logs…1st time I have ever dome this so…

OK…sound back on…but not 100%…very strange…have done nothing in settings or anywhere…just cuts out for a nano second every now and then and sometimes longer…definately hardware related I would have thought but open to any suggestions…

M

now cuts out 50% of the time…oo er something is not quite right

Sorry to ask: Is this now a replaced Vero box or still the original clotted one from the picture?

This is the original one from the picture. Not working at all now…sadface…

Can you post full logs via My OSMC?

Sam

OK…after much fiddling…good news/badnews…it is my Beresford DAC that is knackered and not Sam’s Vero 4k.

Sorry for letting the hare run…

So team…I want to get the sound from the Vero4k into my analogue amp…I used to have an expensive Dac…but that has died…is there a small inexpensive magic box you would recommend please?

Opening this up to audio gurus like @grahamh @JimKnopf

Sorry, cannot help. I use a Sony AVR and never had a need for a separate DAC.

If it’s just stereo you want, use the analogue out socket (the one nearer the lan socket). It just takes a standard stereo 3.5mm jack. You ned to turn the wick up on the amp but I haven’t noticed any degradation in noise on my setup. Alternatively, there are cheap USB soundcard dongles.

If you want more channels, you will need a more expensive USB soundcard.

You mean there is an analogue out?!..all this time I never new…no instructions came with mine, but hey ho…every day is a school day! This would be excellent if it worked…right, off to hunt down a cable…

Will try it out and report back!

M
