my Denon X4500H receiver is not capable of passthrough HDR10+
my Samsung Q9FN is able to play this format.
My vero is now connected to mediaplayer channel on avr and the avr output goes to EARC hdmi on television. on Vero it is now listed as HDR10 and HLG capable. i suspect that when connected to television direct it will show HDR10+ as well.
to be able to play HDR10+ (i know not a serious world problem) i looked into 2 splitters:
Feintech VAX01202 as show below in the picture, which will split signal and the video source will be put on televison HDMI3.
this last one does not have EDID management, according to the supplier he thinks this will not work. as it seems that the vero will read both edid from television and avr.
Is that possible to read both edid and what will be the outcome, as i want to achieve HDR10+ to view via vero on television and listen to Atmos (for example) on AVR.
any command i need to enter to merge or read the edid connected?
Having a switch with options for the EDID is essential I would say. Exactly what those options mean is not explained very well anywhere. It seems to work, but if you’re stuck, it is possible to ‘hard code’ an EDID into Vero but you would need some software that generates EDIDs so you get the best video and audio capabilities from both devices.
thanks @zatarra77@grahamh for your reply. today i’ll receive VSP01204 to see if that works and tomorrow VAX01202 will arrive. If both will not work, i’ll ordering the model VSP01201. I’ll keep you posted.
First impression, i installed the VSP01204. on Vero it worked well, HDR10+ display is recognized and i could play Atmos and IMAX enhanced on the AVR so that is working.
Only issue so far is increase/decrease volume will result in sound interruption to the AVR.
Maybe powering this HDMI splitter will resolve this, need to check.
did test with powering the VSP01204, no differences detected, used same belkin cables on both hdmi connectors. The issues with sound will happen every couple of seconds, even without adjusting volume, so it is clear to me that this device is not sufficient to use.
Today the second device added, VAX01202, same cables used.
On Vero it worked well, HDR10+ display is recognized and i could play Atmos and IMAX enhanced on the AVR so that is working.
increase/decrease volume doesn’t generate sound interruption on AVR. external power is needed on this device to get it working, nor regular sound interruptions appeared during playback.
So far it seems to be playing well.
Can’t identify yet about HDR10+ is being detected as Q9FN is not able to show this seperatly (later models can show hdr10+ icon).
The hdr10+ recognition is not stable enough to rely on. The device looses the video recognition of hdr10+ in which the Vero is not able to keep this fixed. i need to power off and on multiple times. I guess i need to stay with the current solution and in near future when tv and avr need replacement get a better working combo.
Could you first connect your Vero to the Denon and Denon to Samsung and post cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/rawedid. That will give us the full audio specs from the Denon.
Next download this file and put it somewhere on vero. The quick way: wget https://collab.osmc.tv/index.php/s/A3CA5A4gWeSnaXy/download -O ~/test.bin
Turn off hot plug detect: Settings-System-Display-Lock HDMI HPD.
then echo load /home/osmc/test.bin | sudo tee /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid and restart Kodi with Power-Exit (do not reboot).
Now see if HDR10+ works. If it does, I can add the Denon’s full audio spec into that EDID and you should be good. Then we just need to load that EDID when Kodi starts (TBC).

Download the file mentioned and executed the command and power exit
And i see the same “color” change on the screen kodi menu as i saw when vero was connected directly to the televison. Vero is still connected to the denon and the denon to the television.
If you are getting all the audio formats you expect (TrueHD, Atmos, DTS-HD) then there’s no more to be done with the EDID. I forgot Kodi ignores the audio part of the EDID. But FWIW, I’ve added the audio details in this file.
You now need a systemd unit file to load that EDID file on boot. Do you know how to do that?
The i rebooted again but is stays the same and my test file didn’t show the colors as expected (when as directly connected in the previous test). As well as the display doesn’t show the HDR10+ setting.
I loaded the file of @grahamh and did the “ exit” only and then the settings appears as expected and the file playing did show as expected.
