I have a external HDD connected to my Raspberry Pi which is running OSMC. I want to access the videos, photos and music files from the HDD on my tablet and laptop when I am away from home. Please can you advice ?

The best and most secure way would be if you install openvpn server on the Raspberry Pi and openvpn client on your tablet/phone.
I think there where some threads in here talking about it, so suggest to search for openvpn in the forum.
