I’m interested in the Vero V for local video and streaming as a replacement for a samsung smart tv’s built-in software. I want more privacy and control, so the Vero seems like the perfect solution if I can get it to fulfill everything I need.
I was wondering what kind of video streaming options the Vero V has? I saw that it’s possible to stream Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, but is there any other streaming you can do? I assume that’s within a browser.
I imagine it might be possible to do IPTV, and perhaps also broadcasted TV using a USB tuner? Anything else?
No, in a normal installation the only application the Vero V runs is Kodi, and Internet streaming is done via Kodi add-ons. These are generally less reliable than dedicated apps, and (last I heard) have significant restrictions on video quality: 1080p max on Netflix, 720p max on Disney Plus, and 540p max on Prime Video. That may change a bit in the future once the OSMC guys get Widevine L1 fully operational; but even then, if Internet streaming is a priority for you, a Vero device may not be your best choice. It’s designed primarily for locally stored media.
Privacy and streaming services are mutually exclusive if you ask me.
What ever privacy gains Vero will provide over other devices like “smart” TVs, Rokus, and Fire Sticks would be minimal to nothing.
If you want privacy, then you should avoid all those streaming services and stick to local media playback only.
I don’t know how your local libraries are but the ones around here have tons of blurays for TV shows and movies that you can check out for free.
My wife wanted to watch this show from PBS called All Creatures Great & Small so I checked my local libraries website and sure enough they had all four season available on bluray.
Just throwing some alternative ideas out there for you if privacy is a concern.
