I can’t get a local console prompt from my Vero V: pressing esc (also tried ctrl-c) when the welcome screen appears doesn’t seem to do anything, and the unit is no longer connecting to wifi so ssh access isn’t gonna happen.
I haven’t changed anything of late so am a bit perplexed as to what’s going on. Is there any guidance on how else to obtain a local console prompt? I really don’t want to reformat + reinstall unless absolutely necessary…
thanks in advance
Here it works as described at Accessing the command line - General - OSMC. It doesn’t work with the splash screen after a cold/warm boot. It sometimes helps to immediately press “Esc” several times when you see the splash screen or the sad face screen after clicking “Exit” in Kodi.
Thanks @JimKnopf - I’ve had success smashing esc multiple times in the past but not this time unfortunately.
fyi I don’t have kodi started anymore - disabled it as I use Plex headless (i.e. via Plex andriod app, not HDMI). I’ve connected an HDMI cable to get a local console I can see.
[edit: I should also have mentioned that right now, my system doesn’t progress beyond the welcome/loading screen]
Is there any other way to get a local console? Can I drop out of the installation flow when booting from an install image perhaps? Otherwise I think I’ll have to reformat & reinstall…
Interesting usage of an Vero V …
Whatabout trying a wired connection to an ethernet switch? Perhaps, this saves some time comparing to a reinstallation.
Out of the recesses of my mind I recalled virtual TTYs (console prompt) are a thing: alt+F2 gets a local TTY from the osmc boot/welcome screen, which is exactly what I need to figure out what’s been going on.
I’ll reference this in a reply to Accessing the command line - #8 by ActionA - perhaps the “accessing the command line” wiki can updated to include
Thanks again Jim, appreciate your help
