Stuttering mkv when skipping chapter

Hi,

I have a mkv file, which is not played correctly by Vero 4K. When I skip chapters, the movie stutters or sometimes even freezes. I did not have that problem with other files yet.

Strange thing is when I play the exact file on a Chromebox with LibreElec/Kodi it plays fine and I can skip chapters as with any other movie. I even used the network port of the Chromebox for Vero 4K for testing, but the movie still stutters when played by Vero 4K.

Here is MediaInfo of that file:

Any idea why Vero4K does not play that file fine?

Best regards,
cyb

Extra compression for subtitle streams has been a problem for many playback devices over the years. I don’t think that’s the issue here, but a re-mux without compression won’t increase the size much at all (maybe a couple of MB) for testing.

I re-muxed the file and removed all subtitle tracks in the new file. It does not change anything. When skipping to the second chapter, the image freezes and stutters.

I meanwhile upgraded to Vero 4K+, running OSMC 2018.08-2 but the problem persists.

Both files can be played without problems on Chromebox running LibreELEC.

What can I do to find the problem OSMC has with that files?

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

So, in summary:

  • activate the logging
  • reboot the OSMC device
  • reproduce the issue
  • upload the log set either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A
  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

I just started the movie, skipped to second chapter and the video seemed to hang, although the current time increased.

Should be fixed in Kodi v18

I finally found a difference between working and non-working files. The non-working files have only a starttime of the chapters, the working have a start- and endtime of each chapter.

As seen on Beta 1 Chapter skip in Mastroka files this seems to be fixed in v18. That’s why the files are running fine on my LibreElec (actually with nightly v18).

Kodi v18 is in beta, and we have nightlies available.
It will be made available shortly after it’s stable release.

Cheers

Sam

Yeah I know and I can wait for stable v18 release containing that problem fixed.

I just wanted to report that extra information back to be probably the cause of the problem.
