If I select subtitles on for an episode they work fine but when I play the next episode they are off, I have tried “make default for all media” but they don’t show unless I hold Stop and then select again.
Settings>player>language>preferred subtitle language> is what you need to set. I think the default is “original language” which might sound like the correct setting but I believe that only enables the subs by default if your playing a mkv AND it has an original language tag set (I don’t think this tag is commonly used). I think if you set that setting to a specific language it will automatically enable the sub by default as long as there is a sub available that has been identified as being the same language (either by internal file tag or by file name such as movie_name.eng.mp4)
Thank you, I had to select English (nice not to see English UK!) before they worked, default or original did not work👍
The setting “default” is also referring to a mkv tag. I believe the point of which is that you can set a specific subtitle track to default when you have more than one of the same language and it would make it a prefered selection. Neither of these options would typically be what people would optimally have set. For those that don’t want subs enabled by default the optimal setting is likely “forced” (so foreign language spoken is shown translated in text) and for people who like you want them enabled by default a specific language should be chosen.
As for the queen’s english I’m not sure that is a thing with sub language tags. I’m pretty sure there is only a single english language reference in the spec.
