Supported hardware list?

Hi. I’m working on building a home entertainment center PC with Raspberry Pi 2 and OSMC and Plex. I’m building this for my daughter who moved out of the house into her own place. She has wifi in her place so the Pi I build will need to do wifi I don’t think I’ll be able to run a CAT 6 cable to her TV. Is there compatible hardware list somewhere? I see that they make USB wifi hardware but I want to make sure what I get will work. BTW I think I’m pretty much going to follow this guide for building this Pi. http://mymediaexperience.com/raspberry-pi-xbmc-with-raspbmc/ Unless someone knows a better guide for building it.

I have used the WiPi dongle from Element14 (www.element14.com) and can confirm that this works fine. It’s part number 2133900.

There is also a wifi adapter sold through the OSMC store. This will definitely be supported:

https://store.osmc.tv/product/802-11n-wifi-dongle/

Unfortunately documenting every supported device is tricky for a few reasons:

  • Supported hardware can vary across OSMC supported devices
  • Supported hardware can change internally (chipset for example) which means it may look the same as a product someone else bought, but not work at all.
  • There’s a lot of hardware that we support, some we may not even ‘know’ about, because the device may be a rebrand of another.

The 802.11n dongle we sell is pretty good and should suit your needs.

Update: I’m building my Pi. It is amazing. So far everything is coming together with ease. I have the RPi2 with a metal case with built-in heat sink from Flirc. I added the Edimax N150 Wi-Fi USB adapter. I also added a Aerb 2.4G Mini Wireless Keyboard Mouse Multifunctional W Infrared Remote Learning. All of it is working with OSMC, no problem. I love the OSMC installer; a few mouse clicks and the OS was on the SanDisk Extreme PRO 32GB UHS-I/U3 Micro SDHC SDSDQXP-032G-G46A and ready to go. I went through the setup, set the time zone, and location settings, and entered the wi-fi passcode and everything just works great. I pointed back to my Windows share to grab the Plex addon and Amber skin. I still have some tweaking to do on this setup, but so far I love it. Now I’m not sure I want to give this to my daughter.

Well, it’s cheap enough that you could build yourself one :grinning:
