Switching back to OSMC after a year :(

Originally I don’t even remember what were the issues which made me switch to LibreElec back then but my Libre was working flawlessly for the last year or so for playing movies, slideshowing pictures and listening music, all of this from NFS.

But then one day I thought I would need TFTP server for something else and I couldn’t add it to that stripped down linux so I have prepared the latest OSMC on an identical brand SDCard to give it a shot again on my Raspberry PI 3

Unfortunately after about half an hour I already made up my mind that this would be a significant step back rather than step forward.

The very first h264 movie I started crashed kodi and it was restarted, movies which played ok on Libre are sluggish, the default menu is completely sluggish and the feature I got used to from the Confluence skin that when you watch a movie you can already browsing your directories for another one while it is running in the background is gone. The structure of the default browsing itself is unusable compared to the long list format.

Then there is the issue with the NFS, when I started copying big files to my NFS server the movies just got aborted, when I started them they resumed from the position tho. This just never happened with Libre with the exact same hardware.

Also that small blue progress indicator looks very ugly compared to Libre’s confluence.

After couple of more crashes, black screens and other bugs I said this project needs to be scrapped again :frowning:

Hi @freebsduser,

if your thread has the only intention to get rid of some frustration but you do not expect/want to get help: Thx and good-by.

Otherwise, open a separate topic for each single issue you have in the Raspberry Pi group. We would like to see senseful information to understand your situation means logs are mandatory:

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

So, in summary:

  • activate the logging
  • reboot the OSMC device
  • reproduce the issue
  • upload the log set either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A
  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

Since this is not a helpful topic for anyone, I’m closing this. Feel free to open new ones for single problems in the right category group with required information. Thx for your understanding.

It’s pretty clear that your device is running out of memory. A log would have told us why.

Anyway – if LE works for you, just use that. If you want OSMC to work, then provide a log in a new thread.
