System recovery after crash

Hi!

I started using my VeroV about two weeks ago. Recently I noticed that the device is likely to crash if buttons on the remote are pressed in quick succession (e.g. when changing settings in the system menu). The system displays messages that start with the text ‘loglevel(0-9) reboot(b) crash(c) terminate-all’ and becomes unresponsive.

This post is not about those crashes - although I would like to resolve them - but about what happens afterwards. You see, after such a crash, the VeroV will repeatedly fail to boot beyond the AMLogic screen. Is there a toggle or setting somewhere that will allow the system to boot properly after a crash?

Here is the procedure that I follow:

  • Unplug Vero V (no electricity);
  • Wait 12 seconds;
  • Plug Vero V back in.

After doing this five or six times, the VeroV will spring back to life and boot.

I’ve tried this with and without a hard drive plugged in. It doesn’t seem to make a difference. CEC is currently disabled (I’ve been trying to troubleshoot other system freezes).

Is the device getting warm?

Can you let me know the specs of the HDD? If the device is becoming unresponsive it may be that the hard drive needs an independent power supply.

These specific crashes have occurred three times, I think - but the most recent ones both occurred soon after booting up the Vero V, which makes the device heating up too much unlikely (though not, of course, impossible). The temperature in our home hovers between 18 and 20 degrees Celcius, so, in principle, the Vero V should be able to lose excessive heat.

The hard drive has its own power supply.

Does the front LED stay solid blue or does it turn off?
Try touch the top of the device and get a feel for the heat. It’s hardly scientific.

When the device is booting, you could also check the temperature under System Info.

At the moment the device boots up correctly, but I’ll see if I can cause another crash in the way described in my first post.
