Terrible music performance after April upgrade

This last upgrade seems to have made a complete mess of audio. Initially I had the freezing issue which seems to have been solved by setting the resampling to “Medium”, but all music is now choppy. This system has worked with scarcely a problem for a couple of years but this month is been awful😡 And the OSD of playing music had disappeared

I’m utterly depressed! For 2 years I’ve been telling everyone about my media centre running on a tiny computer, but now it’s almost unsuable for music

Any idea of what might be wrong?

System seems to work fine until I play any music, either ripped CDs or over the internet: mixcloud, internet radio, everything stutters horribly since the April update. There is no problem with video.
