[TESTING] Kodi v19 builds for Vero 4K / 4K +

So i just went through 20 titles varying between HDR10 and DV mkvs on the April kernel. OSD look identical on all the movies. Looks very good.

Did the same thing on the May kernel.
Not one title has a OSD that looks good.
They are all blown out to some degree.

It basically looks like the OSD and Subtitles are HDR on the May kernel but on the April kernel it looks like the OSD and Subtitles are SDR.

OK, stand down, thanks. I think I’ve found the problem. Your reports have led me straight to it.

Fantastic

It was my assumption that MaxCLL would never be greater than master display luminance. Doesn’t make sense to me but there it is.

This is…weird. After what I think is the latest update to the Kodi 19 / Vero test builds some of the System menu options have disappeared. See attached pics.

I tried a clean install from the file at the top of this thread (no add-on, no library), and the menus looked normal. I then updated thru the MyOSMC app and the menus disappeared again. Everything seems to work otherwise.

Thanks in advance!

Can you please post a debug log? We made some changes to string parsing.

Thanks for the rapid response, here is the log URL: https://paste.osmc.tv/unexixocuh

I enabled debug logging, rebooted, navigated the Menus to System>Settings, then went to My Osmc to upload the log(s).

Anyone else had issues with the handshake for resolution? Mine seems to default to 720p or lower after turning TV/AVR off and keeping OSMC on since I started testing v19, worked fine with resolution changing ect before.

Setups as below:
OSMC → Marantz 8012 AVR → Samsung QE65Q6

Logs should show why that happen.

If you could, when submitting logs, tell us the time that you turned on the AVR and the TV. Do they automatically turn each other on/off by CEC?

They are started trough an Activity in Logitech Harmony. OSMC is always on, AVR and TV is turned on/off and inputs selected based on that.

I’ll do some tests during the weekend and grab some logs!

Ok, thanks. What should happen is Kodi remembers the GUI resolution, then at each change in the HDMI chain a hotplug signal is sent which Kodi uses to scan for the chosen GUI resolution. A hotplug should be sent when the AVR is switched to the Vero’s input and when the TV is turned on/off when the AVR is set to input from Vero.

We haven’t knowingly changed how that works between 18.9/3.14 and 19.1/4.9.

This should now be fixed if you update again. Can you check this?

Thanks

Sam

@sam_nazarko At my system it is still the same, just installed the update to version 4.9.113-41-osmc, mentioned it as well in version 40… No change in that creen that @whysoserious showed, still the same.

That’s the kernel version.
The strings would be fixed in a Kodi update.

Sam

Can confirm that the MaxCLL issue has now been fixed with the latest kernel.

However the OSD and Subtitles are still a lot brighter when playing HDR than what they were with the previous kernels.

Even with the Dark Grey subtitle color they are much brighter than what they were with the White color on previous kernels.

On previous kernels it looked like the OSD and Subtitles were output as SDR and now it looks like they are output in HDR.

Can confirm with latest update many menu items are still blank.

Can you enable debug logging and reboot?

Thanks

Thanks for that. I’ll wind down the brightness a bit more. Can you confirm the brightness is no longer affected by MaxCLL and/or master display luminance? ie the OSD looks the same for all videos?

I only have a poor-man’s Panasonic on which these brightness differences don’t show up clearly.
